DESIGN & ENGINEERING

BYSTRUP is the designer behind the Composite Pylon. The firm has been involved with infrastructure design and power pylon design for the past 20 years and have had designs realized in Denmark and the United Kingdom.

Bystrup is a global consultancy adding value to public and private clients on next-generation architecture and design all over the world. Bystrup was originally founded as a broadly focused architecture firm in 1994 but redefined as an architect and engineering firm in 2009. Today, the company is primarily involved in infrastructure related projects. Bystrup is owned by Founder Erik Bystrup and CEO Henrik Skouboe.

Bystrup has been working on the design of new high voltage pylons for over 15 years. Bystrup holds a thorough knowledge of what is happening on the development front in the high-voltage pylons throughout Europe and worldwide and also has a wide component manufacturer network. Bystrup is primarily dedicated to the design, development and optimization of high voltage pylon solutions for Transmission System Operators (TSOs), and has participated in several international design competitions, winning prices for their innovative new OHTL pylon design.

Bystrup's work encompasses the complete overhead line design including foundation and routing.

In collaboration with the Danish operator Energinet, Bystrup have previously developed the new 1x400 kV Design pylon made of steel, which is now installed on a 25 km line in North Jutland, Denmark.

Later, a 2 x400kV Design pylon (the Eagle Pylon) has been developed and is being used for the construction of a 180 km OHTL in Southern Jutland, (to be expanded in 2020).
Bystrup won another OHTL design competition in England with the "T-pylon" design (also in steel), where the first prototypes have been through a comprehensive testing program, and where the T-pylon is planned for different OHTLs in the UK.

CONDUCTORS

Nexans was founded 120 years ago by two remarkable personalities - François Borel and Edouard Berthoud, brilliant industrialist. Nexans will use their experience to create the most optimal cable for this project.

Nexans was founded 120 years ago by two remarkable personalities - François Borel, genius inventor and Edouard Berthoud, brilliant industrialist. Nexans brings energy to life through an extensive range of cables and cabling solutions that deliver increased performance for customers worldwide. Nexans’ teams are committed to a partnership approach that supports customers in four main business areas: Power transmission and distribution (submarine and land), Energy resources (Oil & Gas, Mining and Renewables), Transportation (Road, Rail, Air, Sea) and Building (Commercial, Residential and Data Centers).

Nexans’ strategy is founded on continuous innovation in products, solutions and services, employee development, customer training and the introduction of safe, low -environmental- impact industrial processes. In 2013, Nexans became the first cable player to create a Foundation to introduce sustained initiatives for access to energy for disadvantaged communities worldwide.

Nexans is an active member of Europacable, the European Association of Wire & Cable Manufacturers, and a signatory of the Europacable Industry Charter. The Charter expresses its members' commitment to the principles and objectives of developing ethical, sustainable and high-quality cables. Nexans has an industrial presence in 40 countries, commercial activities worldwide, is employing close to 26,000 people and generating sales in 2016 of 5.8 billion euros. Nexans is listed on Euronext Paris, compartment A.

FITTINGS

Dervaux’s key role in this project is to create the best fitting to attach the conductor to the composite cross-arm – a critical part of this design.

Dervaux SA was founded in 1828 and grew on both local and export markets. The company is based near Saint Etienne (France), where it designs, develops and produces complete ranges of accessories for high voltage and extra high voltage networks.

Dervaux SA has built up a strong position in the transmission line sectors through the quality of its products and recognized R&D capacities (vibration, connection, etc.).

The engineering and technical teams have acquired international expertise in customised studies for line or station configuration and can deal competently with technical constraints. All the solutions are assessed and qualified in the laboratory of the company that conducts mechanical, electrical and vibration tests.

As part of the Sicame Group - SBU Transmission, Dervaux SA is worldwide active in OHTL projects and represents 47 companies established in 23 different countries all over the world.

Dervaux SA has become one of the largest European entities in its sector and has develop a strong knowledge and capacities in damping systems, laboratory testing and High Temperature Low Sag conductors. In the last years, Dervaux SA has developed and carried out several projects with HTLS conductors, the type of technology which applies to Composite Pylon.
